Quote #1: "We would fight for hours in between meals, for no reason at all. During these fights, we destroyed most of the furniture and threw the mattresses out in the yard."
Said by: Ishmael
Page: 139
Significance: This quote is significant because it shows that even though the boys have been rescued from war, they are still in that mindset, the mindset to kill. I think that part of the reason they are acting like this is because they still have drugs in their systems. Recovering will probably take a while because they are just used to death and fighting now.
Character Judgement: The difference between Ishmael in the beginning of the book and Ishmael now is so surprising. It's like he is a completely different person. In the beginning of the book he is very sweet and caring and now the war and the drugs have ruined him. It is very sad to read this because it is just unbelievable.
Question #1: What do you think it is going to take for Ishmael to get better?
Quote #2: "As the truck begin to pull away from the base, I started to boiling with anger, because I couldn't make sense of what was happening."
Said by: Ishmael

Significance: This quote relates to the question "what was their life like in their home country?"This quote is significant because it shows that the war and that base is just a part of Ishmael now. He is so used to it that he doesn't even want to leave the war. It's like a habit; going out and killing people.
Connection: I can relate to this because it is very hard to get rid of a habit. Also it is very hard to accept change, especially change this big. I think that he will eventually get better and accept it.
Question #2: If you were in this situation do you think that you would be upset about leaving or do you think you would be happy about getting a new life? explain.

Response: I agree. Maybe because they had so many drugs they are making think and act like this. I think this war has got to their heads a little bit and I think because of this they are going to be more aware on what is going on in regular lives. I hope this war did not mess him up or anything.
Question: I think Ishamel needs to take bed rest as what all doctors say. He probably needs to stay off drug for more then a few days. Then probably everything will fall into place and he will get better.
Response #2: I think your right. I thought he would want out but I guess this is just a game of hide and go seek for him. I cannot believe he still wants to be in this war. If I were him I would want out. I would want to go back to my regular life as a young boy and not worry about death at a young age.
Question #2: I would be extremely happy if I got to go out of the war and have a regular life. I would hate to go back there and if I said "yes", I would regret it. I would hate risking my life everyday and always being prepared for the worst.

Response#1: I agree that the boys are still in war mode. They have gotten so used to killing without thinking. After 2 years of ruthless war its hard not to get violent. I dont think that Ishmael will snap out of it in a day, it will probally take some time for him to recover.
Answer#1: I think that he needs to start doign things he used to do before the war started. For example he could start listening to rap again.
Response 2: I think that just because they aren't in the war zone, it doesn't mean that their mind is out. I think that Ishmael is still programmed to kill because after being trained to kill without thinking for 2 years, it becomes automatic.
Answer 2: I think that I would be mixed. I think that I would be mad that I would have to leave my " family" behind because that would be the only family that always was around. I would also be happy to get out of the war zone and start a normal life.
