A Long Way Gone #3

Quote #1:
Said by: Ishmael
Page: 84
I was so happy that my mother, father, and two brothers had somehow found one another. Perhaps my mother and father have gotten back together, I thought.

Significance: This quote is significant because it really got my hopes up about him seeing his family again and it made me happy that his friends might get to as well. The second part of the quote is significant because it is Ishmael wishing that his parents got back together. I liked that he added that in the book because this is a book that is so different from our life's but he gives us something to relate to.

Connection: I can tell from the paragraph that Ishmael is so happy that his family is alive and near him. I can relate to his feeling of happiness and relief that him and his friend feel. I think that they will be able to "relax" a little bit more then they have been able to for a while.

Question: Do you think that Ishmael will get to the village in time to see his family?

Quote #2:
Said by: Ishmael
Page: 84
I didn't sleep that night. My hands begin to shake as soon as my friends started snoring. I had a feeling that something bad was going to happen. The dogs begin to cry and ran from one end of the village to the other.

Significance: This quote is significant because it makes me wonder why he was thinking something bad was going to happen when he just got such good news. Also I liked the quote because it is an other sign that they saw. The first one was the bird and now the dogs. Also I can relate because I get this feeling sometimes.

Connection: I can relate to this quote because sometimes I get the feeling that something bad is going to happen and normally you can tell when I feel this way because my hand shakes also. Also I can't sleep when I have something important on my mind.

Question: Do you think that Ishmaels feeling is correct? If so what do you think will happen?

Response#1: I'm happy that Ishmael is finally going to see his family. I think he needs to see his parents and brothers after this long of a time period. I think it would help heal Ishmael mentally and emotionally.

Answer#1: I think that the village will be attacked. This is because Ishmael keeps on saying that something bad is going to happen. Also the crow dropping out of the sky is a curse or a sign of bad luck.

Response#2: I think that Ishmael thinks something is going to happen because he got good news. He is probably thinking that this news is too good to be true. Also I think that Ishmael is very spiritual and believes in curses and bad omens.

Answer#2: I think that Ishmael is right. I think that the village that Ishmael's parents are staying at will be destroyed when he gets their. Or maybe that the town will be deserted when he arrives.

Response #1: I agree. That quote does get your hopes up. It is very nice seeing your family back together after you have not seen them in such a long time. Maybe because of this war they will take good care of each other and maybe they will get back together. I also agree that this book is to different from our life but then when he mentions that second part oft he quote it gives us something to relate to. Every child probably wishes they have a mom and dad.

Question #1: I don't think so. They village might be attacked by the rebels. Everything is moving fast in the book and the rebels are taking over and making everyone leave their villages.

Response #2: When I read this quote I think of him being scared. Because when he said that when he heard his friend snoring he started to get shaky. He probably wishes someone is looking out for him so he doesn't get kidnapped or something like that.

Question #2: I think so. As every other village he has been to, they were all deserted. No one was there. So I think it is going to be the same when he gets to the village. Hopefully things will change and that won't happen.
